Frank Lampard insists that Chelsea is on track for a decent season, but the Blues manager is committed to making the next period more complicated for Liverpool and Manchester City.
Third seed Chelsea wants only four more issues to qualify for next season’s Champions League after beating Norwich 1-0 on Tuesday night.
They have an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on Sunday.
And they’re still in the eighth round of this year’s Champions League, even though they face a difficult task to go back to a 3-0 deficit when they reach Bayern Munich next month.
Lampard is satisfied, but admits he doesn’t like to see champions Liverpool 30 points ahead of them and Manchester City in second place.
Chelsea record striker-turned-boss Lampard, 42, said: “I’m satisfied but I need a lot more. When we get back after the end of this season, we have to come in and say, “Can we get started? end this gap? ”
“It will be hard work. The gap is transparent with Liverpool and Manchester City in terms of points. We’re on a stage where we’re underway. There’s a lot to do.”
But after being constrained by a movement ban last summer and having to bleed many of the country’s children, Lampard believes Chelsea’s efforts have been very encouraging.
Lampard added: “I think we can be quite happy with our current situation. I don’t need to take the step because we have games that are going to be very important where we end up.
“But if we had said that we would be 3rd and play as if we were in the FA Cup and the Champions League, I know it will be difficult, but we went through the organizational stages.
“You see the transition of the team and the young people. A lot of our players were on loan last year and some of them were in the league, so I think we can be pretty happy.
“But I think there’s still a lot of paintings to be done.”
After their FA Cup draw, Chelsea to Liverpool, then receives the Wolves on the last day.
Despite the nationally eyed baseline, Lampard helps keep his head down in his players’ work.
He said: “Instead of communicating about the bottle, I communicate about concentration and attitude.
“When you face Liverpool as a visitor and the Wolves at home, they are two opponents.
“We just have to do it in those games one by one and show the right attitude.”
