NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Chelsea will demand a £50m payment for Conor Gallagher following Aston Villa’s departure.
The midfielder has just a year left on his contract with Chelsea and the club are unwilling to see him leave on a free transfer next summer.
Gallagher has given no indication that he needs to leave Stamford Bridge, however, a sale to Chelsea this summer would constitute a natural benefit to his accounts as the club seeks to breach the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.
It is understood that Aston Villa have contacted Chelsea for Gallagher and a deal will be reached temporarily given Tottenham’s past interest.
Chelsea will have to wait £50m for Gallagher, while The Guardian reports that Villa could offset that valuation by adding striker Jhon Duran as part of the deal.
Chelsea had a resolution for Duran in the January move-in window. The 20-year-old, who has 8 caps for Colombia, joined Villa in an £18m deal with Chicago Fire in January 2023 and scored 8 goals in his first full season in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Gallagher has welcomed Chelsea’s appointment of Enzo Maresca as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement.
“Really exciting,” Gallagher said of Maresca’s arrival.
“I’ve heard some smart things and I’ve noticed some smart things.
“Me and everyone at Chelsea are happy and excited to be working with him. “
Asked if Maresca’s appointment represented a new beginning for Chelsea, Gallagher replied: “Yes, exactly.
“We have to put Chelsea back in their place.
“So hopefully with the new coach we can start to progress and get to where we belong. “
