Chelsea signs Leicester left back Ben Chilwell on a five-year contract

England’s left-back is the third-time signing of Blues coach Frank Lampard this summer following the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner of Ajax and RB Leipzig.

“I am extremely happy to join Chelsea right now for the club,” Chilwell, 23, told Chelsea’s website.

“I look forward to being part of this young, dynamic team led by Frank Lampard as we defy honors next season.”

While any of the clubs have been silent about the amount paid by Chilwell, Leicester said on his online page that “it’s one of the biggest moving fees ever won by the Foxes.”

Chilwell, the product of the Leicester Academy, which has matches with England, made his debut for the Foxes in October 2015 and made 123 appearances for the club.

“Ben leaves with everyone’s most productive wishes in Leicester City, and the club would like to thank him for his contribution to an exciting time for the team and their enthusiasts as they look towards the ECU football season,” Foxes said in a statement.

Chelsea secured fourth place and one position in the Champions League at Leicester’s expense on the final day of the English Premier League season in July.

Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia said: “We are very pleased to have completed our third addition to our exciting team for next season.” Ben brings a lot of high-level gambling joy in the Premier League, Champions League and foreign level, despite his young age.” – AFP
