England’s left-back Ben Chilwell on Wednesday, Chelsea’s third signing of the summer, left Leicester for an estimated 50 million pounds ($66 million).
Chilwell’s arrival at Stamford Bridge on a five-year contract follows the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner of Ajax and RB Leipzig, and more deals are expected before the window closes.
While neither Chelsea nor Leicester has officially disclosed the amount paid by Chilwell, the Foxes said on their online page that it is “one of the largest moving fees ever received” through the club.
“I’m very happy to sign for Chelsea at this exciting time for the club,” Chilwell, 23, told Chelsea’s website.
“I look forward to being part of this young, dynamic team led by Frank Lampard as we defy honors next season.”
Chilwell, the product of the Leicester Academy, which has matches with England, made his debut for the Foxes in October 2015 and made 123 appearances for the club.
“Ben leaves with everyone’s most productive wishes in Leicester City, and the club would like to thank him for his contribution to an exciting time for the team and their enthusiasts as they look towards the ECU football season,” the Foxes said in a statement.
Chelsea achieved fourth place and a Position in the Champions League at Leicester’s expense on the final day of the Premier League season in July.
Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia said: “We are very much about having completed our third addition to our exciting team for next season.
“Ben brings a lot of high-level gaming joy in the Premier League, Champions League and foreign level, despite his young age.”
Chelsea have been heavily connected with a blow to veteran Brazilian defender thiago Silva, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz is still online to move to Stamford Bridge.
The club also has several goalkeater options, with Ajax’s Andre Onana and Burnley’s Nick Pope connected to a move to London.

The firmness of owner Roman Abramovich has placed Chelsea in a solid position in the moving market, and the club is able to offset the effects of coronavirus more than many other clubs.
