Chelsea to push forward chimney sale with 14 players facing exits before move window closes

The wholesale refurbishment of Stamford Bridge in Chelsea shows no signs of slowing down, more than two years into the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital regime.

New manager Enzo Maresca admitted on Sunday after the Blues’ 2-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City that Chelsea could include more than 30 players in their squad this season.

Maresca has insisted in the past that Chelsea want an exceptional team to cope with the demands of a grueling crusade that includes the relentless Europa League Conference.

Chelsea have worked throughout the summer to find departures for a number of players, with Conor Gallagher still waiting for his move to Atletico Madrid and Romelu Lukaku expected to sign up for Napoli.

People like Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja are also permanent departures, however, there are many more who will be allowed to leave before the August 30 move-in deadline.

Here, Standard Sport looks at the list of Chelsea players who can still leave the club permanently or on loan before the end of the month.

Chelsea signed Serbian goalkeeper Petrovic in August 2023 and the 24-year-old earned £14million last summer.

Petrovic, a regular in goal last season, battled with Robert Sanchez, a Brighton recruit, for Mauricio Pochettino’s starting spot.

However, the whole system based on the possession of new head coach Maresca is based on the goalkeeper having top-notch distribution skills, and it is because of this explanation that Chelsea signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in this window. Strasbourg, owned by Chelsea leaders, is a season-long loan for Petrovic.

Kepa, the world’s most beloved goalkeeper when he arrived at Chelsea in 2018 for £71. 6m, never managed to settle down at Stamford Bridge, even though his tenure in west London already spans six years.

He spent last season on loan at Real Madrid but is unlikely to return to the Spanish superclub. Instead, Saudi Arabia’s characteristics will be on the table. Among those who have not yet earned a team number, the more it indicates the surplus status of it.

However, at 29, his most productive years are likely still ahead of him and, in addition to his heightened ambitions, the market for a permanent move may also be tough.

Effective confirmation of Chelsea’s determination to sell the Chalobah academy product came when the Blues signed Tosin Adarabioyo in a loose move from Fulham at the start of the summer window.

Available for £25m with Chelsea determined to cash in, Chalobah has consistently performed well and has proven to be ultra-reliable in over 50 senior appearances.

Fulham have been unable to make progress in their bid to capture Chalobah as an upgrade for Tosin, while Crystal Palace will upgrade the 25-year-old if Newcastle agree a deal for Marc Guehi. Newcastle could turn their attention to Chalobah if they fail. in his ambitious assignment for the Eagles and the Englishman Guehi.

A £45m move with Frank Lampard, who won the Champions League in 2021 as favourites with Thomas Tuchel, England left-back Chilwell is now up for sale. The tactical setup that Maresca’s new head coach likes is to face at least one of his full players. -backs, and the perceived wisdom among the ranks of Chelsea managers is that Chilwell has so far struggled with this style.

Certainly, Chilwell’s talents are used in a classic protective role, overlapping or articulating with a winger or striker. Manchester United are believed to be following his situation.

Now centre-back Humphreys, a graduate of the academy, who broke into the England Under-21 team in 2023, is now expected to leave Chelsea in this window. Leeds have followed the former Swansea loanee, Burnley are now expected to close a deal for the 21-year-old.

Burnley will most likely look to complete a permanent signing soon or a season-long loan deal with the option to confirm the move next summer.

Among the first cohort of Boehly/Clearlake signings in the summer of 2022, Chelsea paid Aston Villa £20m for the then-18-year-old midfielder. Chukwuemeka battled injuries in a bid to identify himself in Les Bleus’ packed midfield. .

And after Sunday’s defeat to City, Maresca admitted Chukwuemeka would be better off locating regular first-team football at another club this season. Crystal Palace are closely monitoring his situation but it could be postponed if the sale value particularly exceeds the £20m paid by Chelsea for the promising midfielder. He is also available on loan, but wages may be a hurdle unless the Blues subsidize a stopgap measure.

Captain of Mauricio Pochettino last season in Reece James’ absence due to injury, England midfielder Gallagher now finds that he has plenty to spare for the needs at his boyhood club.

Still keen to complete the £33. 7m transfer to Atletico Madrid, Gallagher is now waiting for the Spanish club to increase the budget to complete his transfer. Chelsea are still seeking a permanent deal to sign Joao Felix from Atletico, which would complete Gallagher’s transfer.

Like Chukwuemeka, Casadei is part of the first tranche of signings through the new owners and will join Inter Milan in the summer of 2022 for £12m.

After a loan spell at Reading and Leicester, the Italian midfielder returned to the Blues in the summer with the aim of building himself entirely in West London. Fiorentina, Napoli and Lazio are now a resolution for the 21-year-old, with Les Bleus. open to a deal.

The 22-year-old academy graduate could take up a permanent role this summer, with Portsmouth still keen to sign the speedy winger.

He spent last season on loan at Pompey, where his progress was limited by injuries. He was on loan to Huddersfield and Lokomotiv Moscow in previous seasons.

Sterling, the first notable signing of the Boehly-Clearlake era, arrived at Chelsea from Manchester City and decided to take his career to the next level. Instead, just two years later, it was discovered outdoors under the guidance of new head coach Maresca.

Chelsea insist Sterling’s omission against Manchester City on Sunday is just a natural choice, a “technical decision” as Maresca called it. However, Sterling still needs to play a key role and a club organization continues to monitor his situation.

Juventus are willing but will struggle with their high wages, while Paris St Germain are also said to have maintained their interest. Saudi clubs would jump at the chance to sign the English star, who is still considered to be in the prime of his game, and at 29, with many years of his prime still to come.

The Brazilian foreign winger spent last season on loan in Strasbourg. Gabriel joined Chelsea for £13m from local club Santos in the summer of 2023 and is a young star with great potential.

Turkish club Besiktas have considered an imaginable move for Gabriel this window.

The Blues are set to sell their academy-graduate striker this summer, having Broja spend last season on loan at Fulham.

The 22-year-old Albanian striker had sparked a great deal of interest at Monaco at the start of the summer transfer window.

A clutch of Premier League clubs have maintained interest too, with Southampton, Ipswich and Everton all still looking closely at a bid for the Slough-born frontman. Broja is among those now without a squad number, after new Blues recruit Pedro Neto took his No 19.

The Ivorian striker joined Chelsea from Norwegian side Molde in December 2022 and has since benefited from loan spells at Union Berlin and Burnley.

Chelsea are believed to prefer a permanent sale for the 21-year-old striker on loan.

Back for a season at Chelsea in August 2021 for a record £97. 5m, as one of the last major signings of the Roman Abramovich era.

However, the Belgian hitman struggled to adapt to his return to Stamford Bridge, and a season later he returned to his former club Inter Milan on a season-long loan. After another season’s loan at Roma, Lukaku is now expected to move permanently to Napoli, where he would be reunited with his former Inter boss and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
