Chelsea XI vs Brighton: starting lineup, showed team news and injuries at the latest

Chelsea’s injury list has fallen to its lowest level of the season ahead of tonight’s game against Brighton, with Mauricio Pochettino having a strong squad by his side.

Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto have returned to action in recent weeks, leaving Enzo Fernandez, Robert Sanchez, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia absent.

Among those returning this week is Ben Chilwell, who returned from a knee problem he suffered while away with England in March, and is named in the dugout.

James returned to action on Saturday with poise after five months out due to hamstring surgery, making a sensational 18-minute appearance as Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest for a third rebounding win, but it’s not complicated from the start.

Djordje Petrovic continues as goalkeeper against 4 defenders composed of Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Marc Cucurella.   Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher are the midfielders of the double pivot.

The four attacking players are, again, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson, and Raheem Sterling failed to press in his first start since March after scoring against Forest.

Chelsea XI: Petrovic, Gusto, Chalobah, Badiashile, Cucurella, Caicedo, Gallagher, Madueke, Palmer, Mudryk, Jackson

Substitutes: Silva, Sterling, Bettinelli, Ugochukwu, Nkunku, Chilwell, James, Colwill, Casadei

Time and date: 19:30 BST on Wednesday 15 May 2024

Venue: Amex Stadium, Brighton
