Patrick Mahomes is pleased with Travis Kelce’s new contract.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback congratulated Kelce on the new deal he won Monday in an article about X.
I told you I’ll let it go!! Congratulations man!@tkelce https://t. co/9sqkZY8mU8
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Kelce would make $34. 25 million over the two-year contract.
Travis Kelce contract clarification: This is a new two-year, $34. 25 million contract, replacing the two years and $30. 25 million he had left on his old contract. So he has a contract until 2025, not 2027. Apologies for the lack of communication.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the extension would make Kelce the “highest-paid” tight end in the league.
The two stars have been teammates since 2017, when Mahomes decided to come to Kansas City with the 10th overall pick.
In the past, Kelce gambled on a four-year, $57. 25 million extension that he signed in August 2020. The deal represented the fourth tightest contract in terms of average annual price (according to OverTheCap. com).
Mahomes and Kelce have thrived as a duo, becoming one of the most successful duos in the NFL. They combined to win three Super Bowls together, the Chiefs like a modern dynasty after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Kelce has earned nine straight Pro Bowl nominations, while Mahomes has two regular-season MVP awards and 3 Super Bowl MVPs to his name.
The two also moved onto the court, with the quarterback calling Kelce his “brother” in a November 2023 interview with ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
“I’m talking about his family and my family has almost a family because of the appointments we have and how we’ve ranked [these] brothers on the football field but also off the football field. “Mahomes said (2:12 points).
While Kelce’s production dipped a bit in 2023, the 34-year-old still completed 93 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns. He also made the playoffs, for 355 yards and locating the end zone 3 times in 4 playoff appearances.
Mahomes and Kelce will now look to help Kansas City become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, with the closed star locked out for two more years.
