Chris Smalling Stays with Rome (PA)
Chris Smalling has completed a permanent signing to Rome from Manchester United, which announced that he has reached an agreement with Serie A on Monday night.
Smalling signed through Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010 and the central defender played 323 games for United, which won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Europa League crown in his time at Old Trafford.
He spent last season on loan with Roma, which, it is understood, ended the player’s capture when the Italian FA dealt with the documents with a minute to spare before the deadline for the country’s move.
A on the club’s online page said: “Manchester United have reached an agreement with AS Roma for the transfer of defenseman Chris Smalling.
“Loved and appreciated through all the United coaches with which he played, the existing player in the first team who has made the most appearances for the club than Chris is, at the time of writing, David De Gea.
“Everyone at Manchester United would like to thank Chris for his years of service, determination and professionalism, and I would like everything for his future. “
