Chris Sutton bit Robbie Savage when asked if Celtic weren’t favourites for next week’s Old Firm derby.
But he admitted that this is a game that Brendan Rodgers’ team must not lose. The champions pass through the city with a narrow one-point lead at the top of the Premiership, the Rangers men have a game in hand against Dundee. Three problems for the Hoops at Givan next Sunday will force the Gers to beat the Dark Blues AND leave Parkhead with maximum problems after the split, barring any unforeseen setbacks from the starters.
But a home win would return the Light Blues to the top, with the chance to extend the lead to five at Dens Park. This would require their rivals to ask for favours, even if they win the home derby. Speaking to BBC 606 by phone, Frank described Rodgers’ troops as downtrodden for the title-deciding clash, Sutton didn’t get that far despite Savage’s attempts to lure him into the chances of his former club.
Frank: “I think we’re underdogs in the way we’ve played this season. The Rangers, without a doubt, and it breaks my heart to say this, are definitely playing a lot better under the current manager’s control than they did before. wonderful Michael Beale.
Savage: “Chris, the underdog. Are you Celts outsiders?”
Sutton: “Well, Frank says the Rangers have one game less and if they win that game . . . the adjustment in Ibrox is surely huge. Celtic can’t lose this game, can they?”
Frank: “That’s Chris. We can tie because we’ve got them at Parkhead. But we must not lose this game. Basically, we have to forget at all costs this ownership that the current coach assumed,” unlike Ange last season. If he takes off the chains, we will be able to take the Rangers without any problem.
