Sixteen months later, Manchester City, however, has discovered a replacement for Captain Vincent Kompany.
Portuguese foreigner Roben Dias about to sign for City from Benfica on Monday, looking Portuguese claiming the central defender moving for 68 million euros ($78 million).
In return, Benfica said, Nicols Otamendi would sign with the City club for 15 million euros ($17. 2 million).

Kompany finished his 11-year season at City in May 2019, but was not replaced last season when City renounced his English Premier League name in Liverpool.
Despite signing Nathan Ake for 40 million pounds ($46 million) the off-season as an update for left-back Aymeric Laporte, City continued to look for a right-back to upgrade Kompany well.
John Stones and Eric Garcia have played in any of the City League games so far this season, but the long career of both players is uncertain. Garcia has been connected to a return to Barcelona, while Stones ruled largely off the team last season. .
Dias, 23, tall and defending at ease with the ball on his feet, has played 19 times with Portugal and established himself as a regular in the national team after being a member of the team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Dias went through Benfica’s quarry, joining his senior team in 2015, captain of what could be his last match with the team, against Moreirense on Saturday, and embraced his teammates and sporting director Rui Costa after the last whistle signaling that he is about to leave.
Benfica said dias and Otamendi transfers have yet to be completed, contracts have not yet been signed and medical examinations have not yet been approved.
City has spent a lot on central defenders since 2014, bringing Eliaquim Mangala from FC Porto that year for a million pounds, to Valencia Otamendi for 32 million pounds in 2015 and Stones for 47. 5 million pounds in 2016.
Laporte joined Athletic Bilbao for a record payment of millions of euros ($80 million) in January 2018.
Now Ake and Dias will have moved for a total of $124 million.
