Manchester City President Khaldoon Al Mubarak said Monday that his club ignored UEFA after the fierce war to overturn its Champions League ban.
The governing framework of European football hit City with a two-season suspension of continental competitions in February for alleged violations of the monetary rules of fair play, but the ban was overulled last month through the Court of Arbitration.
City had already had a complicated relationship with UEFA even before the penalty and their coach Pep Guardiola said the Premier League team deserved an apology following the CAS verdict.
But Khaldoon to refer the dispute to history and build a more powerful bond with UEFA.
“Life is too short for grudges,” he said on the City’s website.
“It’s a competition. It is one of the most prestigious competitions in world sport.
“It’s a festival we have to win and it’s a festival we have to respect to win. It was a challenge. It’s us, the end of the story for me.
“I’m focusing on one thing, how I can help this club compete at this festival and win it, and how to have a constructive date with UEFA. I think that’s the only way to do it. “
City’s last to win the Champions League for the first time ended in a surprise quarter-final loss to Lyon in Lisbon earlier this month.
Guardiola’s men also finished 18 issues, Premier League champion Liverpool, ending their two-year reign in the most sensitive of English football.
City responded to a frustrating season, in which their only prize was the League Cup, signing Dutch defender Nathan Ake of Bournemouth and Spanish winger Ferran Torres of Valencia.
They have been connected to Napoli central Kalidou Koulibaly after their defensive difficulties last season.
Although the city president has set some goals for himself, he has made it clear that Guardiola’s review is still over after the tight season outings of David Silva, Leroy Sane and Claudio Bravo.
“We are not adopting a one-year vision, we are adopting a vision of three, five, ten years and when we look at the adjustments or innovations we want to make to this team, we will make them and we will be practical and pragmatic about it, but we will do the right thing,” Khaldoon said.
“I think you noticed about the two acquisitions we made, Ake and Ferran Torres, we acted fast.
“Obviously we knew the players, we knew our goals and when the opportunity presented itself, we were able to enter very temporarily and very temporarily and do this.
“There are other players that we are going to incorporate and we will clearly stick to the plan given the realities of the market we are in today. “
