‘Class’… Alan Shearer thinks 22-year-old Arsenal player has been ‘amazing’ this season

Alam Shearer has been impressed by William Saliba’s performances for Arsenal this season, despite being in just his second year in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old French foreigner was forged in the last crusade and Saliba has established himself this year as one of the most productive defenders in all of Europe.

Alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, Saliba has played a key role in Arsenal’s bid for the Premier League name, as well as their impressive form in Europe this season in the UEFA Champions League.

And speaking to the Premier League’s official website, Shearer praised the former Saint-Etienne prodigy for his performances this season with Arsenal.

Indeed, Arsenal landed a gem when they signed Salbia back in 2019, and the fruits of their labour have been there for all to see in the last 18 months.

Shearer on Saliba’s performances this season: “Class personified. It’s unbelievable how easily he defends and how confident he is on the ball at his age.

It’s still mind-boggling that Saliba is only 22 years old and that the French defender has been an established professional for more than a decade.

Still, it says a lot about Saliba’s quality as a centre-back, as the Arsenal youngster has been a revelation in north London since the start of last season.

Few would have predicted Saliba would be as he has been since bursting into Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, but it is now difficult to see where the Gunners would be without the French international.
