Amway’s first coaching poll of the 2020 regular season reflects more winnings than the pre-season rankings, there hasn’t been much turmoil on the reduced schedule yet. Conferences and groups that are not lately scheduled to play an autumn calendar are not eligible to get votes through the American Football Coaches Association guidelines, so all Big Ten and Pac-12 schools that have been ranked in the preseason will drop out this week.
With that out of the way, Clemson smoothly retained his No. 1. The Tigers, who took early in Wake Forest at their season opener, decided on the first of 37 of the 41 ballots presented this week.
The rest of the 10 most sensitive is governed through the SEC, we are still a few weeks away from seeing those groups take over. Alabama inherits the place for now, claiming only a first-place vote this week. Oklahoma, which opened with what was equivalent to a scrum opposed to the State of Missouri, is No. 3 Georgia, LSU and Florida claim the next 3 positions, with protective champion Bayou Bengals getting the 3 most sensible remaining votes. North Carolina climbed to 11th place after being behind Syracuse on his season debut. Oklahoma State, which saw its opening opposite Tulsa postponed for a week, is number 12, a trio of Americans having the next 3 places.
The new entries in the survey come with two Sun Belt members. The Ragin’s Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette are ranked 21st after defeating Iowa’s 25th state on the road. The champion protector of the Appalachian State Belt also enters 23rd place after avoiding a difficult challenge from Charlotte.
BYU No. 22 and Army No. 25 also come into play. Unfortunately, their Saturday-scheduled meeting at West Point had to be postponed due to some COVID-19 testing among BYU players.
