Clemson’s head coach, Dabo Swinney, told reporters that Field Marshal Trevor Lawrence would return to practice on Monday and resume his initial role after coming back positive for coronavirus on October 28.
The announcement follows the fall of the Tigers to no. Notre Dame in overtime, 7-0, at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday night.
Lawrence was seen on the sidelines but inactive for the contest.
Instead, Clemson turned to replacement D. J. Uiagalelei, who has more than resisted one of the groups in the country. The rookie threw 439 yards and two touchdowns and scored on the court in the first overtime.
Fighting Irish controlled to prevent Uiagalelei from creating even more extra-time magic, topped it off twice before throwing an incomplete pass, followed by Clemson’s closed final, Braden Galloway, wasting a loose ball to finish the game. While transparent, Uiagalelei is the long-term program, it looks like it’s still Lawrence’s team for now.
The favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, Lawrence has already gone for 1,833 yards this season with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions, making the Tigers offensive one of the toughest sets in school football.
Fortunately, Lawrence will have time to resume his routine.
Clemson will say goodbye next week before heading to the state of Florida for a November 21 game with the 2-5 Seminoles.
