Lionel Messi has shown that he will remain at Barcelona until the end of the 2020-2021 season.
The Argentine has put an end to the intense hypothesis about his long career by saying that he will remain at the Spanish club for a year, but only because he did not need to enter into a legal war with the club for his contract.
The 33-year-old had said in Barcelona last month that he wanted to leave, insisting that a clause in his contract allowed him to do so on a loose transfer.
Barcelona, subsidized through La Liga, insisted that a termination clause of 700 million euros ($824 million) be paid.

Messi is considered one of the all-time footballers and has won the World Player of the Year award six times.
“I wasn’t satisfied and I looked to leave. I haven’t been allowed to do this and I’ll stay at the club so I don’t get into a legal dispute,” Messi told Goal. com.
He said control of the club led by Josep Maria Bartomeu is a “disaster”.
“There’s some other way and let him go to trial, ” he said. “I would never go to the court opposite Barca because it is the club I love, which has given me everything since my arrival. This is the club of my life,” I made my life here.
Messi’s contract with Barcelona ends on 30 June 2021.
By staying at the club for the last year of his contract, Messi is waiting for an $83. 4 million loyalty bonus and will leave without a move-in fee.
Argentina has scored 634 goals and provided 285 assists in 731 games for Barcelona.
Messi is a 10-time Spanish champion and won four UEFA Champions League titles with Barcelona in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015.
