COLOGNE, Germany (AP) – Antonio Conte hinted Friday that his long career at Inter Milan remains dubious after wasting Sevilla in the Europa League final.
Conte said he needed time to reflect after the 3-2 defeat in the final that left Inter appearance in the momently position this season after completing a point for Juventus in Serie A.
“It’s just that I’m starting to think and think about things. I also have a personal life and I want to perceive what’s going on,” he said through a translator. Taking on Inter’s task is valued, “no matter what happens even though it all happens in the next few days,” he said.
Conte added: “I had a lot of fun at this club, no matter what happens in the future. But I don’t regret it.”
After the final Serie A game of the season against Atalanta on August 1, Conte said the club could have done more to the team from complaints and “attacks.” On Friday, he rejected advice that there might be a break with the club’s president, Steven Zhang, and the Chinese owners of Inter, and said his relationship with them remained “strong.”
Zhang praised Conte and his team for doing a “great job” in commentary to the Sky Sport station that Inter also on his club’s website. “We’ll rest for a few days and plan for the future,” he added.
Second place in Serie A, the most productive result for Inter since 2011 and the Europa League is his first chance to play for a continental trophy since Jose Mourinho led the team for the 2010 Champions League, completing a hat-trick this season.
