BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho will be offside for 3 months after surgery on his left knee, announced On Saturday Barcelona.
Coutinho, 28, underwent “a successful operation on the external meniscus of the left knee,” the club said in a statement.
Coutinho injured his knee towards the end of Tuesday’s 1–1 draw with Eibar.
Coutinho Barcelona’s maximum expensive signing when the club paid Liverpool 160 million euros ($192 million) in January 2018.
But after a disappointing season and a half, Coutinho ceded to Bayern Munich, helped the German club win the Champions League this year and scored two goals in Barcelona’s 8–2 quarter-final defeat.
He returned to his father this season and scored three goals.
His defeat annoyed Barcelona, and he also lost striker Ansu Fati and Gerard Piqué to serious injuries this season.
