A woman is fighting for her life in hospital and 11 other people were injured after a bus crashed into a shop in central Manchester.
Police said the bus driver, a 64-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving dangerously.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were dispatched after reporting the incident in Piccadilly Gardens.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 1:00 p. m. m. de today, officials responded to reports of a twist of fate involving a bus crashing into a store in Piccadilly Gardens.
“Emergency care was attended and it was established that another 12 people were injured, in addition to a woman whose life is in danger and who is being treated in a hospital. The other people affected are said to be in good condition and suffering from minor injuries.
“The driver, a 64-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by reckless driving.
“The Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is conducting its investigation and is looking for witnesses.

Pedestrians and passengers on the bus are believed to have been injured.
Photos from the scene show the sidewalk cordoned off with the front of the bus by a bubble tea shop called T4.
Ian Wood, spokesperson for T4 UK Franchise Ltd, said: “T4 UK has today been made aware of the turn of fate for the bus at our newly opened store in Manchester.
“First of all, we wish everyone involved in the turn of fate a speedy recovery, we look forward to welcoming them to our store once they have fully recovered.
“We will remain closed until we can get the store back. All members are fine, even if they are shocked.
Howard Hartley, Head of Facilities Management at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), said: “Lately, buses and trams have been unable to stop in Piccadilly Gardens while the emergency deals with a serious incident.
“We have staff on site to assist passengers and direct them to the nearest service, and I inspire anyone who signs up for a service on the domain to check our online page or social media channels for the latest data and tips. “
A large police cordon remains in place as car accident investigators continue to work at the scene.
