Experienced midfielder Dale Stephens has joined Brighton’s Burnley for an unreleased fee.
The 31-year-old has signed a two-year contract, having been at Brighton for the six years, making 223 appearances.
He told Burnley’s website: “I’m very satisfied. It probably took a few years longer than expected, but I’m happy to get over it this week and, despite everything, become a Burnley player. “
“I’ve been far from the northwest for a while. It’s great to go back to where the family circle lives too.
“But most of all, I’m going back to a Premier League football club that’s done it in recent years in this league and I’m excited about this challenge. “
Burnley has long been interested in Stephens, who added, “I’m a better player now than when Burnley tried to point at me, with the joy I’ve had over the last three years.
“I’ve learned a lot from the game in this department in recent years.
“Individually, I need to play as many matches as imaginable at the highest point you can imagine and collectively help us improve as a team and finish as high as you can imagine in the Premier League. “
Brighton head coach Graham Potter said: “The number of appearances Dale has made for the club says a lot about his contribution over the past few seasons.
“He has been a professional during my time at the club and, as one of the most experienced members of our team, has been a wonderful influence and an example for young players.
“We have a festival for midfield positions and with Dale’s preference to play regularly, this is a smart resolution for the club and Dale; it goes with our most productive thanks and desires for the future. “
