It has already been the subject of many rumors in recent weeks, but now it is final: Daphne van Domselaar has signed for Arsenal ahead of the 2024/25 Women’s Super League season. The goalkeeper is completing her move from Aston Villa to the WSL.

Van Domselaar began his career at LSVV and Telstar as a youth player, before joining the academy of FC Twente, a powerhouse of Dutch football. After making his debut, he played 67 games in the Dutch Eredivisie before moving to ambitious Aston Villa last season.

She managed to play 14 games for The Villians, but her performances domestically and abroad meant that elite clubs were still watching her.

“I’m happy to be here,” Daphne told Arsenal’s website. “If you look at Arsenal (the players, the team, the stadium), it’s a huge club and I’m very excited to be part of this club. I need to win trophies and achieve wonderful things, and Arsenal are the right position for me to do both. I can’t wait to play at the Emirates Stadium in front of all the fans and show what I can do.

Head coach Jonas Eidevall added: “We are very happy to bring Daphne to the club. She’s the smartest goalkeeper and already has a lot of experience in some of the biggest scenarios, but she also has great potential for long-term growth. Daphne will further strengthen our goalkeeping unit alongside Manu and Naomi, and will be a vital addition to the team as we prepare for another vital season.

Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley, said: “Daphne is one of the world’s young goalkeepers and we are very pleased to verify her arrival here at Arsenal. He is hungry for progression and good luck, which is very much in line with our philosophy at the club and we are confident that he will be a wonderful addition to our team.
