CHICAGO (AP) – Yu Darvish withdrew 10 goals in his fifth straight-of-career victory, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 on Sunday to finish the South Siders’ seven-month winning streak.
Kyle Schwarber hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and the Cubs won for the fourth time in their last 11 games. The leaders of NL Central were outnumbered 17-5 in the first two games of the series.
José Abreu went deep for the White Sox in the second, tying a primary league record with a home run in four consecutive shots. Abreu hit five times in the first two games against the Cubs, adding 3 home races and 4 RBIs in Saturday night’s 7-4 win.
Darvish (5-1) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings. Jeremy Jeffress had four strikeouts for his third save.
White Sox’s right, Dylan Cease (4-2), allowed two runs and four hits in six innings in his first game against his former team. He had won his last four outings.
CARDINALS 6, REDS 2
St. LOUIS (AP) – Yadier Molina hit 4 hits and the most sensible prospect Dylan Carlson hit the first home race of his career, helping the Cardinals to victory.
Harrison Bader also connected to St. Louis, who has won three of the series’ 4 games. Molina, Carlson and Bader finished with two RBIs.
The Cardinals scored the last six runs after Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Reds.
Bader went deep for a two-point shot at the time after also connecting a home race in Saturday’s 3-0 win. Molina put St. Louis at the helm with a single RBI opposite Tyler Mahle (0-1) in the third.
Genesis Cabrera (2-1) pitched two blank innings to claim victory.
Rayones 5, Blue Jays 4
St. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) – Josh Fleming pitched two-run innings for Tampa Bay, earning his primary league debut.
Fleming (1-0) is the general starter in 29 games this season for the Rays’ injured pitcher corps.
John Curtiss hit the best 1 2/3 innings to get the first save of his career.
Toronto opener Trent Thornton left after an annotated entry with inflammation in his elbow.
The Rays, who lead the American League East, took a 3-2 lead in fifth place with a single one driven through emerging hitter Jose Martinez, Austin Meadows’ sacrificed volley and a single Brandon Lowe opposed to Ryan Borucki (1-1).
Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. took an excursion to Toronto.
GEMELOS 5, REAL 4
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) – Nelson Cruz connected his 10th home race for Minnesota, and closer Taylor Rogers dodged it in the ninth inning.
Cruz hit Trevor Rosenthal’s 99 mph fastball for a solo shot that went 441 feet into the center area in the ninth. Practice gave Minnesota a two-point lead and helped the Twins win their eighth series in nine attempts this season.
Tyler Clippard (1-0) won with an eighth best. Rogers gave Maikel Franco an rbid career without getting married, but he withdrew Alex Gordon to complete his sixth save.
Kansas City left-hander Kris Bubic (0-4) allowed four runs and hits in 3 0.33 innings.
MARINERS 4, RANGERS 1
SEATTLE (AP) – Kyle Lewis and Sam Haggerty connected a house run and Justin Dunn pitched a six-inning houser, leading Seattle to victory.
The rookie trio sent the Rangers to their eighth loss directly and helped the Mariners win their first series and win the sweep of the season. Seattle has won from six at home.
Dunn (2-1) won his career at the time, as opposed to Texas. He took six and walked one.
Taylor Williams worked ninth for his sixth save.
Rangers left-hander Mike Minor (0-5) allowed four runs and hits in six innings.
Texas’ streak of wear and tear is the longest in the primary leagues this year.
PIRATES 5, BREWERS 4
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Gregory Polanco hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, and Pittsburgh completed a three-game sweep of the series.
Polanco connected David Phelps (2-3) for his fourth home race and finished 2 out of 3 with one walk. It’s time for two shots from Polanco in the same number of days, raising his batting average from Array085 to .151.
The Pirates nearly doubled their season win by tied overall on a weekend. They entered the series with a 4-17 record, the worst in the primary leagues.
Chris Stratton (1-0) pitched an eighth goalless run to take the win, and Richard Rodriguez made the best ninth for his first save.
Justin Smoak hit two hits and three RBIs for Milwaukee, a two-run home run that gave the Brewers a 4-2 lead in sixth.
ORIOLES 5, RED STOCKINGS 4
BALTIMORE (AP) – Rio Ruiz led in four races, Thomas Eshelman as an exceptional relief to the injured starter Wade LeBlanc, and the Orioles beat the Red Sox to win a game of the four-game series.
Anthony Santander extended his run-off to 18 games for the Orioles, who went back to Array500 (14-14) with his direct victory after a six-game missed streak.
After Kevin Pillar of Boston ran at the time of the game’s pitch, LeBlanc faced three batters before leaving with a stiff left elbow. Eshelman (2-0) then entered and worked four 0.33 blank entries.
Tanner Scott allowed a two-run home run to Jackie Bradley Jr. in the ninth before winning the last for his first save in his career.
Zack Godley (0-3) of Boston allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings.
TIGERS 7, INDIANS 4
CLEVELAND (AP) – Tarik Skubal and Daniel Norris pitched six innings, leading Detroit to victory.
Jorge Bonifacio hit a two-run home run and Niko Goodrum and Grayson Greiner connected for solo training for the Tigers, who won for the time being in the three-game series after wasting their last 20 games against Cleveland.
César Hernandez sang the 12th race for the House of the Indians. Greg Allen connected a three-run practice in the ninth prevention closest to Joe Jiménez before José Cisnero scored the last two outs for his first save.
Cleveland opener Carlos Carrasco (2-3) allowed four runs in a 3,0.33 innings season.
Norris (2-1) pitched two innings blank to claim victory.
NATIONALS 9, MARLINS 3
WASHINGTON (AP) – Anbal Sanchez pitched seven innings for Washington, and Trea Turner towed three runs.
Sanchez (1-3) allowed a run and hits on his longest start of the season. The right veteran was 0-2 with 9.00 MPM in his first 3 starts this month.
Turner went 3 out of 3 and scored two runs. Rookie Luis Garcia hit three hits and scored three times for the Nationals, who have alternated victories and losses in their last 10 games.
Corey Dickerson scored for Miami for the time being on a consecutive day. Humberto Mejoa (0-2) allowed four runs, two earned runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
