The Liverpool striker was forced to injure his shoulder in the first half of the club’s 3–1 loss in the Champions League final against Real in May 2018 following a clash with Ramos.
Since then, the Spanish defender has been Liverpool’s number one public enemy.
And Lovren, who also played in the Kiev final, took revenge on Ramos when he left one in Croatia’s 3–2 win over Spain six months later.
At the time, on a live Instagram broadcast, Lovren seemed to be talking about Ramos.
He said, “Haha! ¡3-2! Go ahead and get in now, buddy. Boyfriend! They [Spain] are one of the p’s.”
Now Lovren, who left Liverpool to make a 10.9 million pound move to Zenit St Petersburg last month, insists that elbowing Ramos meant the couple’s equality.
Egyptian TV channel Sada El Balad: “Did I intentionally hit Ramos after hurting Salah? Yes, it’s possible.
“Luka Modric tried the tension between me and Ramos, and we were facing Spain with the Croatian national team, and I intentionally hit him with my elbows and told him we had already drawn.
“I respect Ramos as and what he does for his team.
“He’s won a lot of titles, but on the other hand, he’s behaving and hurting the players.
‘I don’t need to make a great story, but I think what Ramos did deliberately hurting my friend, it’s time to pay for what he did.
“We played much more than Real Madrid before Salah was injured in the Champions League final. His departure was a blow to us, after his departure they began to dominate the match.”
