Aston Villa are pushing to find an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Donyell Malen.
The Dutch international is Unai Emery’s priority target to add more pace and versatility to his forward options. Villa have been locked in talks with Dortmund in recent days to agree on a fee for the 25-year-old.
Reports in Germany claim that Dortmund are paying £25m for their Dutch international, which is significantly more than the £15m they offered plus Villa add-ons last week. Malen is set to enter the final year of his contract this summer and Dortmund are pleased. to make money this month despite being their top scorer last season.

Sky Sports in Germany added a bit more information today, with journalist Patrick Berger saying: “He [Malen] needs to move to the Premier League towards Aston Villa, but the clubs are still in negotiations.
“Dortmund are not finding it easy to make a payment of around €30m (£25m), but I suspect that when Villa make an offer of around €25m (£20. 9m) they will find a solution. “
Malen will leave Signal Iduna Park in January and is said to be excited for the chance to make an impact in the Premier League. The striker is said to have already reached an agreement with Villa ahead of a possible move.
Dortmund sporting director Sebastien Kehl recently spoke about Malen’s long career and insisted that he remains an important financial asset to the club.
“Donny is a player for us and has been our most sensible goal scorer in the last two seasons,” Kehl told DPA. “I am not surprised that its qualities are awakening the interest of the market. However, it has wonderful value for us. ”
Malen joined Dortmund in the summer of 2021 and has scored a total of 39 goals in 131 appearances in all competitions. He is capable of playing on the front line, but has basically operated on Dortmund’s right wing.
Villa want some other attacking option as Leon Bailey has struggled for compatibility this season due to injuries. Jaden Philogene re-signed for Hull City in the summer after Moussa Diaby left for £50. 5m for Al-Ittihad, but the 22-year-old has so far failed to adapt to what Emery expects of him. .

He joined Dortmund from PSV, where he bagged 55 goals in 116 appearances. Malen also has plenty of experience playing in European football, making 31 appearances in the Champions League and 14 in the Europa League. The forward featured in eight matches in Dortmund’s run to the 2024 Champions League final, where he came on in the second half of the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid.
