Doris Burke is the first woman to call the NBA finals and radio convention finals

ESPN color basketball commentator Doris Burke will be the first to convene the NBA Conference Finals and NBA Finals on the radio, according to an announcement from the network (h/t Associated Press).

“Doris is a trailblazer who continues to reinvent the imaginable for women in broadcasting, and we know she will thrive in this role as a longtime radio analyst,” said Stephanie Druley, ESPN executive vice president for studio production and occasions.

Burke has called up NBA games for ESPN since Disney first aired the Association contests in 2003. According to AP, Burke has become the first woman to be a full-time NBA game analyst on the network in 2017.

Former Providence College basketball star led the Big East in her freshman year and first convention team in her senior year and on the team so far in her junior season. She also won twice winks for the entire tournament team.

Burke finished his school career with 602 assists, which represents a high school level. He earned 1,372 tracks and was part of the All-America Kodak District I team in 1987.

Respected Burke has won awards over the years, adding the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame (2018) and the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award (2012). He is also a member of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and providence College Hall of Fame.

He will be enrolled in a radio team alongside Marc Kestecher and Jon Barry.
