BERLIN (AP) – A week after their young Bundesliga-inspired attack stars collapsed to defeat him 2-0 in Augsburg.
Gio Reyna, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham made headlines by beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in the first round, but went through an evil defense led by Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz on Saturday.
Dortmund ruled the first half with 8 framed attempts, but Felix Uduokhai scored with the possibility of Augsburg part-time, returning home from a loose kick to the mouth in the 40th minute.
Former Schalke player Daniel Caligiuri doubled the lead in the 54th minute, defending himself against Thomas Meunier before moving on to Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Boerki.
Dortmund coach Lucien Favre sent Marco Reus and Julian Brandt with an hour-long part to play, with little effect. The 18-year-old Brazilian, Reinier, followed his deyet in the Bundesliga at 69, but was unable to lift the team either.
Gikiewicz turned down Mats Hummels, then Haaland late, while Augsburg claimed his victory for the time being in two games.
Gikiewicz’s former team, Union Berlin, regained a 1–1 draw at Gladbach thanks to Nico Schlotterbeck’s last draw. Marcus Thuram scored with a deflected headbutt for Gladbach at 56.
Bayer Leverkusen and Leipzig tied 1-1 and the ascended Arminia Bielefeld and Stuttgart beat Cologne and Mainz respectively.
Joan Simun Edmundsson scored for Bielefeld to win 1-0, and Stuttgart struggled to win in Mainz 4-1.
Schalke was due to receive Werder Bremen later, hoping to end a 17-game winning streak. Fans were allowed to finish, but plans were cancelled the previous Saturday due to the increased number of new coronavirus infections in the area.
A limited number of enthusiasts have been allowed to play to the fullest since last weekend for the first time since restrictions began in March.
