STREET. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (CBS12) — Alcohol consumption turned fatal in St. Petersburg Sunday afternoon.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) said shortly before five p. m. , deputies went to 8198 49th Avenue North after receiving reports that a man had been shot. At the scene, they discovered five-year-old Kevin Bishop lying on the floor inside the residence, with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Bishop’s roommate was questioned by investigators. He told detectives that he and Bishop drank alcohol and, at one point, Bishop showed him a collection of weapons. The sheriff’s office said the roommate reported that all of the guns were unloaded.

During the investigation, detectives said the two men pointed their guns at others and themselves, pulling the trigger. However, the sheriff’s workplace said the guns did not explode.
The sheriff’s office said the gun went off after Bishop took the gun from the roommate, whose hands were separated from the gun. Bishop grabbed him, the report continued, and he was shot in the chest.
The roommate left the apartment and called 911, the sheriff said. It’s unclear if he faces charges, but the sheriff said the investigation is continuing.
Bishop was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
