Battery-powered drone races can reach Paterson Park.
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission will talk Tuesday about issuing a Ladner Park license for a six-month testing era at the KwadsRUs Racing Club for drone racing.
The First Person View Drone Race (FPV) is a game in which participants control drones, regularly small radio-controlled aircraft or quadcopters, equipped with cameras, while dressed in head-mounted screens that show the live camera of drones.
The purpose is to complete an address explained as temporarily as possible.
The club is part of the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada, a nonprofit organization that attracts combined-style aircraft enthusiasts across Canada.
There are many chapters around the world with thousands of members.
The club represents the 68-member West Coast segment and uses Vancouver airspace at UBC, such as New Westminster, Abbotsford, Yarrow and Nanaimo.
The club submitted a proposal for low-altitude drone racing and Delta flights earlier this year, adding a check in the park, and the city was asked to report on possible locations.
The club also provided the documents and insurance to meet the permit requirements of the city park, as well as the rules of protection and operation that address all considerations about the proposed operation in the park, according to the staff.
The club has obtained flight approval from Nav Canada.
“Noise levels are very low and will be largely offset through traffic on Ladner Trunk Road and Hwy 17A and will not exceed Delta Noise Control regulations. If approved, posters will be placed in the park for club members and the public to tell everyone. park users of club activities and related protective measures,” a report to the commission points out.
If the commission votes in favour of the staff recommendation to issue a permit, the club still has to get the approval of council.
