Dundalk verifies the signing of former Dutch Under-17 midfielder Koen Oostenbrink

DUNDALK has signed Dutch midfielder Koen Oostenbrink.

The 23-year-old Oostenbrink came through the ranks of PSV Eindhoven, winning an under-17 international cap for the Netherlands.

He clocked up 32 appearances over two seasons in the country’s second division for FC Eindhoven but has been without a club since leaving them last summer.

Dundalk boss Stephen O’Donnell, who also manages former Glenavon defender Paddy Burns, said: “Koen has a pedigree.

“He’s a cultured midfielder who can play with both feet and he’s in good shape physically. He needs to start and grow his career and we’re really excited to have him here. Oostenbrink added: “Coming to Ireland was a simple resolution. “Stephen is a football coach and I like the way he said he wanted us to play. I think he can beat me because he was number six himself.

On the other hand, Cork City have signed English goalkeeper Aidan Dowling.

Dowling, 21, rose through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers before moving to Larne last summer.

But he has had to play a second half with Rohan Ferguson, making an appearance in the league, and hopes to identify himself as the Leesiders’ number one.
