Dynamo Kiev has named Shakhtar legend Donetsk Mircea Lucescu as their new coach.

Lucescu takes over a two-year contract with one more year.

His appointment follows the departure of Oleksiy Mykhaylychenko, whose term ended on Monday.

Dynamo finished season 23 of the Ukrainian Premier League, champion Shakhtar, who secured a fourth consecutive name with five rounds to play.

Former Romania, Inter and Turkey chief Lucescu is known for his decorated spell at Shakhtar, which has allowed him to win eight league titles, six Ukrainian Cups, seven Ukrainian Super Cups and the UEFA Cup.

“First, I missed Ukraine. I sought to return to this country, where I got smart results. Here I had a very smart date with the fans,” the Romanian told Dynamo’s website.
