The web lit up this week with a heated debate about C. J. Stroud when the second-year caller was suddenly mentioned as a QB1 in the Dynasty drafts.
We asked our Footballguys team if Stroud deserved this status and the answer was a resounding “no”.
But it’s worth taking a closer look.
Stroud came off the slide hot as a rookie, combining two 300-yard performances and three two-touchdown throws in his first four games. Stroud then exploded against the Buccaneers in Week 9 for 470 yards and five touchdowns.
Since his epic exit from Week Nine, Stroud has been locked into the top 10 most sensible quarterbacks in Dynasty and discussed among the top five most sensible at that position.
Then came last week’s industry that added veteran Stefon Diggs to the Texans’ receiving corps. Some began referring to Stroud as “the” — not “one” — the most productive quarterback in Dynasty fantasy football.

Stroud is definitely one of my five most sensible quarterbacks of the dynasty, but he’s ranked fifth. Lately there’s Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes II, and I’ll give you the main reason:
He doesn’t run.
In fact, Stroud is as talented a passer as any of the most productive players. His deep finishing touch percentage ranked in the top five last season, destroying the politics of men and zones with a passer score above 102 compared to both. , and made stars of Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
However, fantasy football needs quarterbacks to run, and Stroud just doesn’t do it that much, with only 4 games over 4 carries and 15 yards. With Joe Mixon in the building, he’ll most likely run even less.
