Eintracht Frankfurt coach has apologised to Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek for Europe’s snub.

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmoller has revealed he has apologised to Donny van de Beek after the Manchester United midfielder was left out of the German club’s Europa Conference League squad.

Van de Beek failed to have any effect at United following his £40m transfer from Ajax in 2020 and was allowed to sign up to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in the January transfer window for the remainder of the season.

However, Van de Beek has only made three Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt so far and will not feature in the Europa Conference League as he moved on from their revised squad for the knockout stages.

Toppmoller is adamant that Van de Beek will get plenty of chances to impress during his time with Eintracht Frankfurt but concedes fans will need to be patient with the Dutch midfielder, due to his lack of football at United.

“He’s only played a total of 4 games in the last two years, so it won’t happen overnight,” Toppmoller said.

“But I’m 100 per cent confident in his quality, he will definitely help us in the second part of the season.

“I told Donny I’m sorry but also what I expected from him now. “

Toppmoller said he was inspired by the reaction of Van de Beek, who scored a goal and provided two assists in a closed-door friendly against the U-21s last Sunday.

“It showed me that he can handle the resolution well,” Toppmoller said.

“He’s up for the challenge. “

Eintracht Frankfurt have the option to buy Van de Beek as part of their deal with United for €11 million (£9. 3 million) plus €3 million (£2. 5 million) in add-ons.
