Ejuke makes CSKA Moscow lose to Zenit St. Petersburg

Chidera Ejuke lent a hand in CSKA Moscow’s 3-2 loss to Zenit St. Petersburg in Wednesday’s Russian Premier League match.

The winger made his 11th league start of the season and took advantage to deliver impressive functionality in the game.

Nigeria unleashed the scoring spree in the 28th minute when they set up Jose Solomon Rondon to open the scoring.

Artem Dzyuba equalized for Zenit St. Petersburg in the 33rd minute after receiving a hand from Daler Kuzyaev.

Dzyuba then missed the chance to put the Blues Blue-White-Sky Blues in front moments before the half-time break, when he failed to convert his penalty.

Dzyuba made amends for his mistake when he put Wendel on to give Zenit the lead in the 50th minute and completed his brace in the 77th minute.

Nikola Vlasic then scored from the penalty spot on death to reduce CSKA Moscow’s deficit, but the Blues Blue-White-Sky Blues controlled to maintain their lead and secure all three points from the match.

Ejuke played for the duration of the adjustment in his 24th appearance for the Reds and Blues in all competitions.

CSKA Moscow are now winless in their last two games after losing to Arsenal Tula last time.

Unimpressive performances saw them drop to third in the Premier League table with 23-game problems.

Ejuke was partnered with CSKA Moscow on the Dutch side of Heerenveen and has scored two goals and two assists since his arrival.

The striker hopes to continue his impactful contributions to CSKA Moscow when they face Tambov in their next league match on April 4.

Ejuke is not included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho later this month.

The 23-year-old forward hopes to return to West Africa on his next outing.
