Celtic’s win over Glaspassw City makes the team “100% confident” that they can broadcast and win their first SWPL title, according to coach Elena Sadiku.
Celtic have beaten league leaders Rangers and defending champions City in their last two league games. And Sadiku insisted that there is still much to be done on his part. City made them sweat in the final five minutes of the game at Petershill Park after Carlee Giammona made it 2-1 with goals from Caitlin Hayes and Natasha Flint.
The Hoops prevailed to stay within a point of the Rangers, who still lead at best after coming back from a goal down to beat Hibs the day before. “I’m 100 percent that this team can win the championship, especially if we play a specific player. We scored some clever goals against City from Caitlin and Natasha, but what makes it so special is that we have wonderful performances from a lot of players.
“This is a team that can go through the name race a hundred times, capable of winning it. I’m satisfied with the last two games, but I know we can do even better. What we combine is clever combat because Glassassw City at home is not a simple game.
“But we have to keep it up now and things will get better and better for us. These wins definitely give us confidence, but we haven’t won anything yet. We will have to keep pushing for more. “
“We just have to keep running but also be attentive because we are entering an era where we are going to play 3 games a week, we have a semi-final and it will be very intense until May. You’ve got to make sure that we keep pushing all the right buttons, but I feel like we did.
City Manager Leanne Ross was frustrated that she didn’t have more quality on her side. There is now a break for foreign football as Scotland kicks off their European Championship qualifying campaign, but Ross warned City they will want to up their game when they meet. Rangers right after the foreign break.
“Our levels of functionality weren’t there today,” he said. When we come back after the overseas break, the functionality will have to be there because the Rangers are a smart team and it will be difficult to go home and leave to get 3 problems from there. “
Elsewhere in the more sensible part of the table, Hearts beat Partick Thistle 3-0 to move 3 points clear of fifth-placed Hibs. At the bottom, Montrose’s 89th-minute winner sank Hamilton Accies, while Motherwell beat Aberdeen to win 3-0 at K-Park. At Foundation Park, the Spartans beat Dundee United 4-2.
