Eli Manning Says His Nephew Arch Shouldn’t Leave Texas: ‘This Is Where He Wants To Play Football’

Head coach Steve Sarkisian announced earlier this week that since Ewers was dropping out of the NFL draft for the season, the junior pinch-hitter would start.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning (#16) runs in the box at the Big 12 Championship football game between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma State Cowboys on Dec. 2, 2023 at the AT.

Arch said he hasn’t “considered an industry at all,” and the New York Giants legend says that’s still the case.

“He picked Texas because that’s where he wants to be,” Eli said of Arch on CBS Sports Radio. “That’s where he wants to play football. He likes Coach Sarkisian and his offense and what they’re doing. . . .

“Obviously, maybe the plan was for Ewers to get into the NFL,” Eli continued. “But it’s there. It’s another year for Arch to mature, be briefed on an attack, get bigger, more potent in the weight room and be fit to play. You never know what’s going to happen. “

“He’s gotta be ready. If not, then he gets some playing time here and there, and he’s got three more years of eligibility at a great school, at a great football program on the rise. The fact that you can transfer so easily now doesn’t mean you should do it, just because you’re not playing right away. . . .

“I know he wants to play. He’s itching to get in there. But being patient, continuing to learn can be very helpful as well.”

The Ewers led Texas to the school football playoffs, where they nearly came from behind against Washington in the semifinals.

“I think naturally, when you go into the school football playoffs and you look at the team that beat us, it’s a sixth-year quarterback [Michael Penix Jr. ] who played at a very high point in that game,” Sarkissian said this week. “I think his experience, his adulthood is going to be anything that he can take advantage of. We will want his leadership. “

Sarkissian added that Arch “has a bright future. “

“Obviously, there are rumors, especially those days, but I haven’t thought about any moves,” Manning said. “I’m just focused on coming up and helping this team in any way I can, and I hope that one day I’ll play for the University of Texas, like I’ve always wanted to do. “
