Barcelona said on Tuesday that it had entered Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic for Seville.
As a component of the agreement, the south will pay the Catalan 1.5 million euros ($1.8 million) plus nine million euros in variables by the 32-year-old player, Barca said in a statement.
“FC Barcelona publicly expresses its appreciation to Rakitic for his commitment and determination and wishes him good luck and good fortune in the future,” he added.
Rakitic, who had one more year of contract at Camp Nou, spent three seasons with Sevilla and won the Europa League in the 2013/14 season before making his big replacement in 2014.
He was one of many Barcelona players who did not appear to be part of the plans of new coach Ronald Koeman.
On Monday, Lionel Messi boycotted Barca’s first pre-season consultation when the striker raised the stakes in his war to leave this summer.
After skipping coronavirus tests on Sunday, Messi missed Koeman’s first fee consultation since his appointment last month.
It is very likely that Messi will withdraw to force a move by refusing to play in La Liga next season, which begins on September 12.
Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who spent last season on loan at AS Roma, will leave with the Italian capital after the two clubs agreed on a permanent move, announced on social media.
Arsenal, on its website, said Monday night that it had agreed to terminate Mkhitaryan’s contract by “mutual consent to allow him to register in Rome as part of a permanent transfer.”
The duration of his contract with Rome was not specified and the fees were not disclosed.
The 31-year-old Armenian, who scored nine goals and gave six assists in his debut season in Italy, said he was “delighted” with the decision.
“I love the city of #Roma, I love this club and I tell the enthusiasts in my heart.I will give each and every effort to help us achieve our goals!” he tweeted.
Mkhitaryan joined Manchester United Gunners in January 2018, scoring goals and assisting them in the 2019 Europa League final.
He played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund.
AS Roma, fifth last season, will play in the Europa League this season.
