Enzo Maresca ‘signs five-year contract with Chelsea’ as he plans to announce new boss

Enzo Maresca has signed a five-year contract with Chelsea before being officially unveiled as the club’s new manager, according to reports. Maresca, a former disciple of Pep Guardiola, will be Chelsea’s sixth permanent manager in the last five seasons.

The Italian will arrive in west London having managed to lead Leicester City back to the Premier League at the first attempt. The Foxes amassed 97 points under his guidance to finish as the league’s best, one point ahead of second-placed Ipswich Town.

According to The Athletic, Maresca has signed a five-year contract with Chelsea, who will confirm his appointment on Monday. The deal would come with an option held through the club to make it bigger for another 12 months.

The report adds that Maresca will bring six of his own assistants to Stamford Bridge, and Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javier Molina Caballero and Roberto Vitiello will also sign up for the Blues.

Leicester will receive around £10m in cashback for signing Maresca. Chelsea are said to be sensitive to the upheaval caused to the Foxes, and Blues bosses appreciate the “class and professionalism” they displayed throughout.

Chelsea were allowed to speak with Maresca earlier this week, with the two sides temporarily reaching an agreement on private terms. Steve Cooper, Graham Potter and Ruud van Nistelrooy have been touted as early favourites to upgrade Maresca at the King Power Stadium.
