Eric Dier ‘has no intention of leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer’

The English foreigner only has a contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for 12 months, and doubts arise about whether he will sign an extension.

Dier was a staple of Tottenham XI for most of the 2022-23 season and was reportedly in complex talks about a new deal first.

However, the 29-year-old was criticised by fans for his poor performances and was left out of Ryan Mason’s starting line-up towards the end of the season.

As a result, contract negotiations between the two sides appear to be stalled and it has been reported that Dier may be allowed to leave with a flexible move in 2024.

A summer has also been raised, as Ange Postecoglou aims to bolster his defensive ranks this summer, but The Telegraph says Dier does not need to leave in the coming weeks.

The report states that Dier intends to stay and fight for his spot with Postecoglou, with whom he is very happy to start racing in pre-season.

Having not been called up for England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers in June, Dier is one of the non-international players who will return to the Hotspur Way for training on Saturday.

The former Sporting Lisbon player recently underwent surgery for a groin injury that had plagued him since this winter’s World Cup and is now fully recovered from the operation.

In addition, Dier has reportedly not received any message from Tottenham that they are going to sell him this summer, even with the arrival of a new centre-back.

As one of the most experienced players in the team, Postecoglou may also be reluctant to let Dier pass if Hupass Lloris and Harry Kane leave in the coming weeks.

Dier left Sporting in 2014 and has since represented Tottenham 361 times in each tournament, registering thirteen goals and 12 assists.

The 29-year-old scored two goals and helped one in 33 games of the 2022-23 Premier League season, starting 31 games but not playing a single minute in his last three top-flight deals.

Tottenham are believed to have named Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven as their most sensible defensive target, while Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo have also been shortlisted.

The Lilywhites already brought James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario to the club this summer, while Dejan Kulusevski’s loan from Juventus became a permanent deal.
