Haaland was back on his side after a mild knee ailment and quickly made his presence felt. After Thorgan Hazard broke the impasse following a poor clearance from Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Dortmund’s prolific number nine scored his third Champions League goal in as many games. Axel Witsel kicked a corner and, after seeing his initial effort stopped, Haaland buried the rebound. Roman Bürki denied Krepin Diatta an occasional view of BVB’s goal, before Haaland doubled his total. Mahmoud Dahoud started the move with a catch of a cross pass for Thomas Meunier, who selflessly opted to pass rather than shoot on purpose, giving Haaland the simplest task from close range.
Dortmund inevitably had difficult moments to face after the restart as Club Brugge continued the game. Emanuel Bonaventure tested Bürki and Eduard Sobol opened the scoring with the hosts’ clearest chance, while Ruud Vormer received the angle on a high attempt. A shot from Haaland via the branches restored a sense of order, before Meunier fired a shot on purpose. Hazard was at the centre of that move and almost ended Dortmund’s next foray into action. a fraction of the distance from applying the finishing touches. BVB saw the rest with minimal trouble and took part in Saturday’s Klassiker against Bayern Munich on a four-game winning streak.
FULL TIME! WITCHES 0-3 DORTMUND
Things assured of Dortmund, which leads Group F with six problems at the halfway point. Bayern is next in the Bundesliga, you don’t need to miss it!
86′ BOLD
Schrijvers tries to catch Bürki with a loose kick, but misses the frame. The final whistle cannot come soon enough for the Belgian champions. . .
84′ EATING ON THE CLOCK
They are at home and watered, and they do not risk before Saturday’s clash with Bayern. Haaland is replaced by Reinier, while the omnipresent Meunier gives way to Morey. Krmencik and Schrijvers joined the action for Bruges.
77′ REYNA OFF
Another update in the Reyna. Il office is fair to assume that it will start against Bayern on Saturday. Passlack is activated instead.
76′ DANGER!
Haaland lowers his head and rushes towards the Brugge goal. He throws a revealing cross from the left, there is too much for Hazard. So almost a quarter.
76′ CHANGE OF WITCHES
Time ran out, Philippe Clément throws himself on striker De Ketelaere for attacking midfielder Lang.
72′ FRESH LEGS
Balanta takes Vormer’s place for Bruges, while Favre takes the place of Reus and Bellingham. Brandt – who has silenced his criteria – and Delaney lead the way.
61′ BRUGES NOT YET FINISHED
Dortmund are beaten at the back, we haven’t said that tonight, when Land introduces Sobol into the area. He’s an excellent opening, but he can’t contain his shot.
59′ DORTMUND STANDS FIRM
There is a wave of activity in and around Dortmund when Bonaventure puts Bürki to the test. Kossounou takes aim after finding the resulting corner, but Reyna intervenes to block his header towards the goal.
REYNA 48′ LONG
Reyna endangers his arm from afar, but the goalkeeper doesn’t care. However, it is a sign of your confidence level. The 17-year-old has been fit this season and recently earned a USMNT call-up for his efforts.
THE SECOND PART! WITCHES 0-3 DORTMUND
Buckle up, guys. Things may get really ugly for Bruges, if Haaland has anything to do with it. . .
PART-TIME! WITCHES 0-3 DORTMUND
Gladbach won 6-0 in Donetsk yesterday, and Dortmund are on course to score a goal from Jan Breydelstadion. Hazard struck first, before Haaland scored his 25th and 26th goals for BVB in his 28th appearance at the festival for the club.
44′ N°1 DORTMUND
A directed effort when Diatta digs up Bürki’s gloves from 18 yards. The Swiss international’s position at Dortmund has been at risk lately, but tonight he is making a new substitution.
36′ WARNING SHOT
Dortmund let Brugge get to them while Sobol controlled a shot from distance. A trace of desperation already from Bruges, not that BVB takes anything for granted. . .
32′ GOLOOOO!!!! WITCHES 0-3 DORTMUND
Haaland will never make the same mistake again! Dahoud moves it with a very good cross pass to Meunier. The Belgian foreigner passes Diatta and selflessly puts Haaland to touch the ball at home. Magnificent offensive play of the winners of the 1996/97.
30′ ALMOST THREE
Best friends Reyna and Haaland mix to devastating effect. The American’s ball pass weighs perfectly: you would put your loan on Dortmund’s number nine score, but put the ball too close to Mignolet. Release for the home team, which is in danger of collapsing.
28′ DANGEROUS
Hazard causes all kinds of disorders for Bruges. The Belgian foreigner intervenes and shoots towards the goal, returning to make pictures to Mignolet. He will start against Bayern, at this pace.
23′ BURKI!
Roman Bürki comes to life to fend off a Vormer effort, after Dortmund were caught off guard in a careful interaction between Vanaken and Bonaventure.
18′ GOLOOOO!!!! WITCHES 0-2 DORTMUND
It’s Erling’s time! Mignolet repaired his part in this goal by denying Hazard a moment. His intervention comes at the expense of a corner that deflects by Reyna and touches by Witsel. Haaland reacted faster and saved Mignolet, before dispatching the rebound with aplomb. Three Champions League matches out of goals this season, and thirteen out of 11 in total. Man is a beast!
14′ GOLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WITCHES 0-1 DORTMUND
Thorgan Hazard moves first at home. Delaney goes up the left and makes the consultation with a softened ball in the danger zone. Mignolet can only push him back in a sea of traffic. Meunier slips, Hazard connects and heads into the empty net. It’s the best time to score, just as the hosts were gaining momentum.
RISK COVERS 6′
Witches fight the fire position with the fire position when Lang sticks a boot into the area. He makes the desired touch with the ball, but Hazard is in the right position at the right time to block.
4′ A HIVE OF ACTIVITIES
Early promise when Dahoud and Brandt combined for the first corner of the match. It leads nowhere, but Haaland has a lot of movement even at this embryonic level of competition. It’s going to be very difficult for the Bruges rearguard to stay in shape. . . .
BEGIN!
Here we are. . .
FIRST PLACE TO GRAB
Lazio rallied to draw with Zenit in the other Group F tie to take the lead with four points, a percentage they have with Club Brugge. Dortmund are three points behind, but will climb to the top position with a win.
GREETING TO HAALAND
Haaland’s comeback after a minor knee ailment is appreciated. The 20-year-old Norwegian has scored five goals in as many Bundesliga games in 2020/21, as well as two out of two in the Champions League. Although he retired in the knockout stages last season, he was the competition’s second-highest scorer with 10 goals, just five fewer than tournament winner Robert Lewandowski. Twelve goals in his first 10 games in the Champions League is a record.
FORM
Dortmund climbed to the current position in the Bundesliga – Bayern on goal difference – thanks to Hummels’ double in Bielefeld. He has five wins out of six in the league and has the stingiest defense in the department with just two conceded. Bruges, the protective champions, are fourth in the current Belgian Pro League standings, after drawing 2-2 in the winning position against Mechelen. They have four problems in Group F, having beaten Zenit 2-1 and kept Lazio.
THE WAY THINGS ARE
Zenit led Lazio in the last kick-off, which is good news for Dortmund. With three points on the table after their defeat to the Italians and their victory over the Russian champions, the victory in Belgium puts them at the bottom of the group. F at the midpoint.
BRUGES TEAM NEWS
It’s as expected of the hosts, with the exception of attacking midfielder Charles De Ketelaere, who starts on the bench.
DORTMUND TEAM NEWS
Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre is mixing up his squad, with an eye on Bayern. Thomas Delaney falls in the centre of defence in the position of Mats Hummels, who won a knock while scoring both goals in Saturday’s win over Bielefeld. Mahmoud Dahoud and Axel Witsel started in defensive midfield, while Gio Reyna came in later to replace the more sensible returning goalscorer, Erling Haaland. Jude Bellingham, Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho fell to the bench.
