Everton midfielder Nathangelo Markelo has joined FC Twente on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old signed a new two-year contract before this month and Everton was willing to secure a high-level football crusade after impressing with an under-23 point since joining FC Volendam in 2017.

Markelo told FC Twente’s website: “I recently renewed my contract with Everton, there is still no direct view of a position in the first team.

“The odds are higher at FC Twente and that’s why it’s smart for me to play here this year. I know the club well, because Jahnoah, my younger brother, plays in academia.

“That’s why it’s so much fun to play here this season.”

Twente began his crusade for the Eredivisie in September and 14 when the league ended early in April.

Markelo, concerned about first-team education with Carlo Ancelotti, has yet to achieve his deyet with the first team at Goodison Park.

The optimist flexible may have dropped out last summer, but stayed on Merseyside after talks with Marcel Brands.

He was a key component of the under-23 team that achieved an unprecedented double in the league and cups in 2019.
