ANCELOTTI ANALYSIS

Carlo Ancelotti said:

“The first half we didn’t deserve to draw.

“The first half was really difficult.

“We left a lot of space in between our lines.

“They had facility to play with the ball and we were not in good control.

“The second half was better but it was not enough.

“It’s not a good result but we have to keep fighting.”

INGS BAGS AGAIN

Danny Ings is up to 19 league goals for the season.

He’s right in contention for the golden boot.

RALPH RECKONS

The Saints boss says:

“I think we can clear the game in the first half if we are more clinical.

“In the end we had a good organisation on the pitch and control of the game and also the better chances.”

On the possibility of Danny Ings becoming penalty taker:

“Normally Ward-Prowse is a very safe penalty shooter.

“But let’s not discuss this.”

ACTION AREAS

Southampton had the possession and the territory but just couldn’t break down a stubborn Everton backline.

REACTION TO COME

Carlo Ancelotti will probably be the happier of the two managers after his side’s first half showing.

The half time introduction of Sidibe stifled the Saints and Southampton didn’t cause Everton too many problems after the break.

A draw in the end was probably a fair result.

The thoughts of both managers coming up.

GAME OVER

A scrappy second half after an entertaining first half.

No real chances for either side after the break and the spoils are shared.

Southampton will be disappointed that they couldn’t make their first half dominance show.

A point does nothing for either side in their late pushes for Europe and Everton remain eleventh and Southampton twelfth.
