Exclusive: Celtic star will be tempted to give up a big deal

The prospect of running with Brendan Rodgers back can convince Callum McGregor to leave Celtic and register for Leicester, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, former Leeds and Aberdeen scorer believes Celtic Academy graduate would facilitate the transition to Premier League football.

Football Insider has revealed that the Hoops feared Premier League football and running with Rodgers back would be enough to tempt McGregor.

Earlier this week this site revealed that Leicester are preparing a £20m bid for McGregor, 27, following Celtic’s premature Champions League exit.

Celtic rejected foxes’ inquiries about Scotland last summer before linking it to a new long-term contract that expires in 2024.

When asked through Football Insider if a change to Leicester would do McGregor good because of his relationship with Rodgers, Whelan said: “It’s a great explanation why the players have to leave.

“If you already know the coach and have worked with him, accept as true that it already exists between the player and the coach.

“It’s helping you settle into a club very, very quickly. You feel a lot more comfortable moving when you already know.

“I’m sure Brendan (Rodgers) will put you on the line in the Premier League.

“It would be a wonderful addition to Leicester as Celtic plays just like Leicester.

“When Brendan (Rodgers) left, Lennon came in and kept everything the same, it wasn’t broken.

“All he did was raise his own little touch.

“It will be a simple transition for the Leicester player.”

In news, two new Celtic signings have been announced as a massive Offer from the Premier League arrives by a Hoops star.
