Exclusive: Kieran Maguire hails Celtic for his masterstroke

Celtic’s player exchange style has been a masterstroke and has contributed to his decade-long “dominance” of Scottish football, says Kieran Maguire.

Football Insider columnist, a finance expert and newman, spoke exclusively after the Hoops had lowered their selling price by Odsonne Edouard.

Parkhead’s hierarchy had sought 40 million pounds for the 23-year-old, but will now settle for 25 million pounds amid the interest of Arsenal and AC Milan.

Maguire believes Celtic’s strategy of promoting high-value players is what has kept them at the most sensible on the Scottish football table for so long.

“Celtic have done it economically off the court in years, especially when they qualified for the Champions League,” he told Football Insider.

“Also because they had a commercial style of players in which they sold about one player a year at a higher price.

“This allowed them to hide their losses and turn them into profits.

“From a strategic point of view, they did pretty well. That’s why they’ve enjoyed such dominance for so long. “

Kieran Tierney (Arsenal) and Moussa Dembele (Lyon) have been outings in recent years, coming out for 25 million pounds and 20 million pounds respectively.

Previously, Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster had secured 10 million pounds for the Hoops.

In other news, a former Rangers and Scotland coach says Celtic want a new recruiting assistant if it’s for the next generation of soccer talent.
