Exclusive: Newcastle, Liverpool face fresh competition for Man City star as European giants join race

TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Juventus are signing Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips, who is a target for Liverpool and Newcastle.

The midfielder has a big decision to make: fight for his place at the Etihad or make a replacement that gives him greater chances of being part of the England team ahead of Euro 2024.

TEAMtalk’s resources have shown that Juventus have a possible destination for Phillips in January.

There is hope that a loan deal can be agreed between all parties, as long as the terms of the agreement are with an option – not an obligation – to buy.

Juventus are without midfielders Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagiolo for the foreseeable future and are beginning to explore several different options for the winter window.

TEAMtalk resources say Phillips is a player they are interested in, but ask for additional explanations about the situations the player and the club will be in this winter.

Juventus can secure Phillips a normal playing time at a top spot in Serie A, as they prepare to fight for the Italian league title.

As things stand, Juventus would oppose signing Phillips on a permanent basis, but would be open to it if things went well during his loan.

Man City bought the 27-year-old from Leeds United for £42m in the summer of 2022 but have struggled to reach that value.

Phillips has made just one start from his seven appearances this season and has racked up a measly total of just 189 minutes of match action so far.

Man City were able to loan Phillips this summer, but were looking to hold on and fight for their place in the team.

The future is not looking bright for him in Pep Guardiola’s set up, though, and TEAMtalk sources have indicated that the next few weeks are going to be crucial in determining what his next step will be.

As reported in the past via TEAMtalk, Newcastle United remain willing to sign Phillips if he is available, but it is believed Man City would prefer not to send him out on loan to a Premier League rival.

Liverpool and Tottenham have also shown interest in the disgraced midfielder for weeks, so Juventus will face a festival for his signing.
