The news that Gustaf Lagerbielke will travel to Lecce came last night when the Swedish defender discovered that he was left over for Parkhead’s needs.
The 23-year-old made the £3m summer switch to Glasgow from Elfsborg but after just six months it seems that Brendan Rodgers feels he doesn’t have the necessary quality to make it at the Glasgow giants.
The former Allsvensken Defender of the Year will move to Lecce and Luca Bendoni from Gianluca DiMarzo. com, who announced the story on his social media channel X, said the move would be completed “in the next few hours”.
Speaking exclusively to TBR Celtic, Bendoni said: “We are still waiting for the main points as well as additional confirmations on that. All we know at this point is that this is a loan plus purchase option and that’s all that’s confirmed.
“I don’t think the option can become mandatory at certain conditions. But I know they discussed this option to become mandatory in certain conditions.
“I don’t think they included it at the end. I think it’s just an option for Lecce at the end of the season.
“Of course, it would be a six-month loan. But I think it’s the day when they’ll close the deal on all the positions with the latest documents.
“They are coming to an end in the next few hours and we will keep you posted. “
Lagerbielke’s departure from Celtic concludes a story in which a £3m dream was shattered almost overnight.
After being sent off on his Champions League debut against Feyenoord, it looked like there would be no turning back for the young Swede despite his impression in the Glasgow derby in September.
But despite the winning goal that saw Celtic end a terrible decade-long run without winning the Champions League, Lagerbielke’s Celtic career appears to be coming to an unceremonsical end sometime today.
When the move happens, the youngster will go with the best wishes of the Celtic fans who will always remember him for that special goal against Feyenoord.
