Exclusive: Tottenham star has to leave euro giants club after Sky revelation

Kevin Phillips has asked Serge Aurier to leave Tottenham this summer if AC Milan lags behind north London.

The winner of the 2000 European Golden Boot, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, hopes that the arrival of 28-year-old Matt Doherty will ignite the Ivorian alien in his long career at the Spurs.

The Lilywhites signed Doherty from the Wolves last weekend after it was revealed that the two clubs had agreed to a payment of 16 million pounds on the right-back.

Sky Sports claims that AC Milan have had conversations with the Spurs about Aurier’s signing, but it is said that the two clubs were divided in their evaluation for the 27-year-old.

He was one of the pillars of José Mourinho’s team last season and made 42 appearances in all competitions.

When asked through Football Insider if he expected the former Paris Saint-Germain defender to leave this summer, Phillips said: “It depends on the player whether he should move.

“If Milan were to come in place, since the Spurs have just signed another side with Matt Doherty, who played almost every single game last season, I’d like to move. It’ll be attractive to see what’s going on there.

“A wonderful move for Doherty, but I don’t see him improving in that right-back position. The length of Tottenham, without disrespecting Doherty, but I think they could have opted for a more prestigious player. He’s a smart snller, but I’m not sure it’s an improvement over Aurier.

Doherty has made 50 appearances in all 2019-20 crusade competitions for the Lobos.

He is the club’s third summer recruit after the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.

On other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson claims the 13 million-pound striker could register for the club from the back of the Premier League before next season.
