Exclusive: Whelan celebrates the dream week after Celtic signed a million pounds in fees and salaries

Noel Whelan has hailed a dream week for Shane Duffy after completing a long-awaited Celtic and scoring for his country.

Speaking to Football Insider Deputy Editor Russell Edge, the former Aberdeen player delivered his verdict after the 28-year-old returned home to equalize in injury time in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Bulgaria.

The formative Celtic fans took a seasonal loan at the Hoops on Wednesday before earning a point to their country in their Nations League game the following night.

The online page revealed that Celtic had paid Brighton 2.5 million pounds for Duffy and would pay a maximum of his salary of four5,000 euros a week.The total transaction fee, adding up fees and salaries, is approximately four million pounds.

The defender will not register for his new teammates until next week, but will be in the contest to start Celtic’s game against Ross County on September 12.

Whelan told Football Insider, “Oh, look, as a player, this is one of the weeks that just falls, the only thing missing from having a baby!

“Look, it’s a good start and I think signing for Celtic also gave him that conviction and confidence, knowing that your season is well settled, you’re in a very smart football club, it’s very exciting.

“He’s so well placed for himself and Neil Lennon, seeing this game and seeing how dominant he is for that purpose too, Neil Lennon will feel he’s done a lot of work.”

He played 96 Premier League games with Brighton in three seasons, keeping 18 leaves blank.

The captain of the Republic of Ireland has 44 matches with his country and his purpose on Thursday will be fourth for the boys in green.
