Adrian Newey’s move from Red Bull to Ferrari is gaining traction.
There are rumours that Adrian Newey, the respected Formula 1 designer, is leaving Red Bull Racing. With a contract running until 2025, speculation abounds about his next move, with Ferrari being the most likely destination.
In the last 24 hours, rumors have surfaced of a significant replacement in Adrian Newey. The designer is said to be contemplating his long career away from the team. Known for his pivotal role in the team’s recent (and previous) dominance, Newey’s potential exit may mark a fundamental shift in Formula 1’s competitive landscape.
Initially brought to light via German publication Auto Motor und Sport, and later shown via Sky Sports’ Craig Slater, the rumours imply that internal tensions within Red Bull may influence Newey’s mind about his career. Although Red Bull has officially commented on Newey’s prestige beyond acknowledging his contractual obligations until 2025, speculation has intensified discussions about his potential next steps.
“There has been speculation that Ferrari was looking to sign him, and also that Aston Martin possibly hoped to catch him at work there. It would be less difficult in terms of logistics for Newey as they were founded at Silverstone,” Craig said. Slater reported.
Two groups emerge as possible contenders for Newey’s experience if he makes the decision to leave: Aston Martin and Ferrari. Both groupsets offer different benefits and could benefit greatly from the aerodynamic wisdom they would bring from their paints at Red Bull. Aston Martin, conveniently located at Silverstone, presents a logistically simpler move.
However, Ferrari turns out to be the favorite in this race. The appeal of the Maranello-based team has been persistent, with Ferrari looking to protect Newey’s centres for more than two decades. Newey’s recent sightings in the vicinity of Ferrari’s facilities have only fueled such speculation.
“Ferrari has been looking for more than 20 years to sign Adrian Newey and has succeeded. But some Aston Martin insiders explained to me that they thought if he went through the other side, it would potentially be Ferrari,” Slater said.
Newey’s contribution to Red Bull has been monumental, especially under the recent ground-effect aerodynamic regulations. With the team winning 25 of the last 27 races, their creations have proven to be not only competitive but also dominant. His departure has vital implications.
Reflecting on Red Bull’s internal dynamics, it’s worth noting that an investigation into the allegations against team principal Christian Horner may have contributed to a shift in strength and, in all likelihood, Newey’s existing thinking.
As speculation mounts, the F1 network is keeping a close eye on the next move of one of its most prominent designers. Wherever Newey lands, his impact on the game will no doubt continue to resonate, shaping the aerodynamics and competitiveness of his new team.
