United beat Watford in the league in the third circular when the Reds moved to a much-changed Aston Villa, which had to box with a team made up entirely of young players amid a coronavirus outbreak.

While Liverpool have recovered as Premier League standard-bearer in recent years, a long drought in the FA Cup will end.

The Reds have won the festival since 2005-06 when they beat West Ham on penalties, with their final appearance in 2012 with a 2–1 loss to Chelsea.

If they nevertheless have to finish that wait, they will have to have one of their former home enemy at United, who this season turns out to live up to Liverpool’s Challenge in the Premier League.

United won the FA Cup for the last time in 2015-16 and was defeated by Chelsea in centerpiece two years later: Arsenal (14) won the festival more than the Red Devils (12).

Anyone who advances will face the non-league Stockport County, West Ham or Doncaster Rovers in the fifth round.

Another favourite, Manchester City, will hope to go through the next two rounds, as first at Cheltenham Town in League 2 and then face Swansea City or Nottingham Forest if they avoid a fourth-round clash.

The lowest-ranked team in the draw, Chorley Town, sixth-placed, receives the Wolves, while Tottenham against Wycombe Wanderers and Chelsea host Luton Town at Stamford Bridge.
