A long-time Spurs supporters’ organisation took on a major challenge at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the club’s support, to raise awareness of motor neurone disease (MND).
MND affects the nervous system and causes weakness that progresses over time. It can especially reduce life expectancy in adults of all ages. Around 1,100 people are diagnosed with MND each year in the UK.
In September 2022, Spurs fan Stuart MacCabe was diagnosed with MND at the age of 34.
Stuart’s 43-year-old father, Bruce, along with his schoolmates Mark Fielding, Bob Clarke, Scott Lewis and Steve Pettingill, and with the help of his friends and family, today attempted to sit in each and every seat in our iconic South Stand as many times as imaginable to reach the equivalent of the stadium’s 62,850-seat capacity.
By hosting the Big Stadium Sit Down, the band hopes to raise £5,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which is committed to raising budget to study the causes of MND, research possible cures and offer grants to other living people if they are allowed to live as full a life as possible.
Incredibly, the organization managed to meet the challenge in an impressive time of two hours and forty-five minutes. The team also surprised with the special appearance of the club’s ambassador, Ledley King, who was concerned and helped them achieve their goal.
Bruce said: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Tottenham Hotspur for allowing us to organise this brilliant occasion to raise awareness of the MND. It was a wonderful success, so thank you to everyone involved. “
Mark added: “Today was a fantastic day and I would like to thank Spurs for their participation in this event. It was a big challenge for us, but we managed to succeed. Each of us did incredibly well and completed the task a lot. “faster than expected, which is incredible. Kudos to everyone involved in raising awareness at MND.
