FC Barcelona asks to play two matches on two continents in two days

FC Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world, but the football giants will have to be desperately short of money as they are asking their players to bet a ridiculous amount in a short period of time.

The team will play a La Liga match at home against Almeria on Wednesday and fly to the United States to face Mexican club América in Dallas in a friendly on Thursday night.

Normally, a team would split their roster in two in an exclusive circumstance like this to give their players enough rest. But, according to ESPN, it doesn’t look like the club is doing that.

It appears that many of the same players who play on Wednesday night will be asked to make the trip to Dallas to play in a meaningless match that’s about 30 hours later. That’s pretty irresponsible, in my opinion.

So why would Barcelona do that? The team went into huge debt in the 2010s by renovating its stadium, the Camp Nou, and spending heavily on players. According to the Associated Press, the club has a debt of more than $500 million. The game will sell a ton of tickets. and bring a lot of money.

At the moment, the season has not gone as planned for FC Barcelona. They are fourth in La Liga, nine behind Girona and seven behind Real Madrid. They are only 3 questions away from qualifying for the Champions League. This would constitute a significant monetary setback for the club.
